Searsport, Maine
is a working port town and the anchor of port activity on the mid-coast of Maine. The chemical industry played a major role in the local economy of Searsport during World War II. Petroleum products shipping and handling supplemented the chemical industry during the Korean conflict, and today, fuel, lumber, paper and chemicals continue to arrive and depart from the port at Searsport. Tourism is also an important part of the local economy in Searsport, which bills itself as the “Antique Capital of Maine.” The area also offers handcrafted goods, such as furniture and unique local foods and gifts. Searsport has many bed & breakfast inns, motels, campgrounds, several flea markets and restaurants to support the tourism trade.
